A little rain didn’t stop these 96 KSKJ Life golfers! Members from lodge 53 and 79, both in Waukegan, IL, participated in this member tournament. The greens turned out to be a fun spot for these members to catch up with one another, some who haven’t seen each other for years. Despite the cloudy skies, camaraderie and possibly a hole-in-one or two was on the menu for the day. This matching funds event was put together by both lodges in order to raise funds with Midwest Veterans Closet. The proceeds will provide an upcoming mobile food pantry truck from the Northern Illinois Food bank for a back-to-school, grocery stock up for those in need. Way to give back!
On June 29, 55 KSKJ Life members and guests from Joliet, IL, were treated to a delicious steak fry with all the trimmings at St. Joe’s Park while the younger members enjoyed good old fashioned hot dogs. The fun outing started with a quick meeting before dinner followed by a friendly beanbag tournament.
Matt S. and Zac M. came from behind to claim the title, Brian B. and Parker S. finished 2nd while 3rd place went to Charlie O. and Lynn M. Maybe the steak dinner fueled these wins?!
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - ED GRANT WINNER
Meet Sarah H! Sarah was a recipient in 2021 of a $1000 scholarship through our KSKJ Life Educational Grant Scholarship program. This past May, Sarah graduated from Illinois State University with a major in Deaf Education. During her senior year, she participated in two student teaching experiences. One was at Hinsdale South High School and one at Wisconsin School for the Deaf.
Sarah told us the grant helped her by providing financing for college expenses. As a student teacher in the mornings, she took college courses in the afternoon and evening. Due to this schedule, Sarah was unable to have a job and the grant helped to cover her cost of living and loan payments. We recently reached out to Sarah for an update. She is proud to tell us that she will be starting her first year of teaching in the fall at a school for the deaf and hard of hearing. We wish you much success, Sarah!
