What it means to be a part of a fraternal benefit society
The word "fraternal" is defined as showing comradeship or being brotherly.
When you join KSKJ Life to protect your family and your future, you gain more than financial security. Your membership is part of a 128-year history of fraternalism that not only helps its members but also its community. As a fraternal benefit society, KSKJ Life gives back locally through a network of both community outreach, volunteer initiatives and charitable causes. KSKJ Life empowers its members to be involved in their community! Additionally, you gain a voice in the future of KSKJ Life by having the opportunity to decide how we are governed, including a vote for our board of directors.

This time-honored tradition goes back almost as far as the Declaration of Independence itself! After the decision to declare independence from Britain, John Adams penned a letter to his wife Abagail stating that the second day of July 1776 will be one of epic proportions in the history of America. He stated there would be celebrations of games, sports, bells, and bonfires that would be passed down to future generations. Although his timing was off two days, the first organized celebration of Independence Day took place in Philadelphia on July 4th. Ships sent off a 13-gun cannon salute, an elegant dinner was served and fireworks were shot off in the evening. While some may say John Adams’ letter to his wife might have begun the start of fireworks displays, it actually dates back to hundreds of years of royal pageantry including plays, performances and pageants including at the wedding of Henry VII. So as novel an idea it seems, fireworks and pyrotechnics in the U. S. were always a part of national triumphs and celebrations of thanksgiving. Today, Americans spend around $1 billion on fireworks each July 4th. As you look up and watch the night sky light up, remember you are watching a colorful and storied tradition steeped in history.
KSKJ Days 2022 - Penny Wars
Cheese ball anyone? This year’s 2022 KSKJ Days featured a Penny War which made for some friendly competition among KSKJ Life departments! It all started with a tub of cheese balls. First step was to eat all the cheesy deliciousness from the tub. Once emptied, employees had to try to fill their own department’s tub with pennies to earn points, while simultaneously & secretly attempting to fill another department’s tub with silver coins or paper bills.
Silver coins and paper bills would deduct points therefore creating some fun and creative tub-filling attempts.
The proud winner was the Accounting Department!
Approximately $500 was raised by the Home Office and a GRAND TOTAL of $6,780 overall. All the donations benefiting the American Red Cross this year! Nice (and sneaky!) work, Home Office! Thank you to all who participated!
Town Hall
With the world getting back to normal, June brought back an in-person Town Hall and Employee Appreciation Day that included home office employees and KSKJ Life board members. After hearing all the KSKJ Life latest buzz, employees were treated to a taco truck lunch in appreciation for the hard work contributed by many. It was a perfect day to have some good old-fashioned socializing.
Taco ‘bout fun!
Election Update
The results are in! KSKJ Life has a new Board of Directors. This was our first direct election format – where every adult member had an opportunity to vote. This election process also established staggered terms for our board members. We will be holding elections every two years moving forward for half of the board positions. This is a good risk management practice that will promote continued stability and steadiness at the board level. Updated bylaws are also in place. Follow this link to read up on the updated bylaws and meet the 2023 Board of Directors!
