For over a decade, our local KSKJ Life lodges have been organizing volunteer events during the month of May as a way to make a difference in their neighborhoods through helpful projects that connect youths and adults. This Join Hands Day initiative is still making an impact with our local lodges through various volunteer projects, and we are excited to expand this spirit of volunteerism to all our members. In 2020, KSKJ Life introduced an annual national initiative to continue to support our mission by reinvesting back into the communities where our members live – which is in all 50 US states! This national initiative – KSKJ Days – celebrates our history of advocating for families and communities since 1894. Each year we will highlight a non-profit organization that aligns with our own mission and values and provide opportunities for our members to come together and make an impact either through direct donations or through volunteer efforts.

The American Red Cross is present in communities around the world to aid when disaster strikes. Each disaster is different, but they adapt resources to the needs of the people. Whether it is overnight shelter stays, meals and snacks, distribution of emergency supplies, health services, mental health services, workers, or emergency response vehicles, the American Red Cross is there.
All of this is possible because of individuals LIKE YOU who donate to the Red Cross.

The weekend of April 23, over 100 people gathered in Wisconsin for the annual bowling tournament. 16 teams with 80 bowlers from 5 different states gathered to start the weekend with a Friday night dinner. They were treated to lunch and polka entertainment on Saturday followed by team bowling. On Sunday, the fun weekend was completed with doubles and singles bowling. There might have been quite a few strikes thrown this weekend but none in the fun department!
World Bee Day

Did you know there is a World Bee Day? Every May, we celebrate bees and the essential role that they play in keeping people and the planet healthy. They help grow 90% of the world’s wildflower plants, 35% of the world’s crops depend on bees to grow, and they help build ecosystems all over the world. Bees have been around for thousands of years and are fascinating creatures. For instance, they don’t have knees, can fly for up to six miles and as fast as 15 miles per hour, and they dance to communicate! Pioneer of modern agriculture, Anton Jansa, came from a family of beekeepers in Slovenia and was born on May 20th. He was one of the first people to bring awareness of the importance of bees in the world environment. Each of us can make a difference to ensure the survival of bees in numerous ways…

May 24- Marija Pomagaj Day: Each May, we celebrate the feast day of Marija Pomagaj, our Lady of Brezje. She is the Patroness of the Slovenian people and protector of the Slovenian Heritage. On the eve of her feast day, Slovenians around the world light a candle in their homes and spend the evening in devotion and meditation.
