Ray and Dolores Zak, proud members of KSKJ Life, have a love story that has spanned over seven decades. Married on May 3, 1952, at St. Vitus Church in Cleveland, Ohio, they celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2022 at the same church, surrounded by family and friends.
Ray, born on July 4, 1930, and Dolores, born on April 4, 1931, both grew up in a tight-knit Slovenian community in Cleveland. Their love story began when Ray's best friend, John Zupancic, invited Ray to a hayride, suggesting he bring Dolores along. That first date sparked a lifelong connection.
Ray served as the Athletic Director for Lodge #226, organizing basketball, softball, and bowling leagues, fostering a sense of community and fraternal spirit. His dedication extended beyond sports, helping to increase KSKJ Life membership through various family-oriented events and gatherings.
Ray and Dolores have always stayed connected to their Slovenian roots and KSKJ Life. Ray saw an article about a basketball tournament in the KSKJ newspaper, which led to decades of participation and organizing.
In 1966, they moved to Brecksville, Ohio, where Ray built their dream home with the help of friends and family. Today, Ray and Dolores still reside in that home, a testament to their enduring love and dedication.
Ray's leadership in KSKJ Life continued as he served as President of Lodge# 226 until the age of 93, passing the torch to his sons. Their involvement in KSKJ Life has not only enriched their lives but also strengthened the community.
As we celebrate KSKJ Life's 130th anniversary, we honor members like Ray and Dolores Zak, whose lives and love stories embody the values of faith, family, and community.
